Kindle e-reader to be cheaper in Japan by 500 yen

Even before its expected release date of November 19th, Amazon has slashed its price by 500 yen for its Japanese customers. The Kindle e-reader will now cost 7980 yen for Japanese customers. Amazon has commences taking pre-orders for the wifi only Kindle PaperWhite from October 24th and the shipping is expected from November 19th

The competition is cited as the main reason behind this move by Amazon. The main competitors are Ledeo from Toppan which is also using broadband technology. Sony also has a product which is sold through Rakuten a Japanese online store. The arrival of tablet computers too  may have prompted Amazon to make a price cut decision.
